13–14National Mathematics Advisory Panel: Strengthening Math Education Through Research. On April 18, 2006, President Bush issued an Executive Order creating the National Mathematics Advisory Panel. The Panel will advise the President and the Secretary of Education on the best use of scientifically based research to advance the teaching and learning of mathematics. The meeting will be held in Boston, MA.
20–21National Board for Education Sciences meeting in Washington, DC. The Board agenda includes hearing from two national organizations that represent education practitioners and policymakers with the hope of identifying research questions that are most relevant to their work at the local level; and considering a process for evaluating IES effectiveness in addressing its mission and achieving its long-term goals.
28–29 National Conference on Charter School Research for academic researchers and policymakers. Titled "Charter Schools: What Fosters Growth and Outcomes?," the conference will be hosted by the IES-funded National Research and Development Center on School Choice. The conference will be held at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. NCES Commissioner Mark Schneider will be the keynote speaker.

1–3 National Symposium on Postsecondary Student Success. The symposium, hosted by the National Postsecondary Education Cooperative, will be held in Washington, DC. It will examine what constitutes success and what factors have an impact on the chances of success for different types of students in different types of postsecondary institutions. The Cooperative is a voluntary partnership of postsecondary institutions, associations, government agencies, and organizations. It receives funding from NCES.
9–11Second IEA International Research Conference. With support from the National Center for Education Statistics, the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA) and the Brookings Institution will host the conference focused on greater understanding of the numerous roles that education plays in the development of nations and in shaping individuals. The purpose of this conference is to provide an opportunity for investigators to share research findings using data from any of the IEA-sponsored international assessment studies, including the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study and the Progress in International Reading Literacy Study. The conference will be held in Washington, DC.
